Windy City Souvenirs
In 1772, a Haitian named Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable, a fur trader, founded a settlement called Eschikagou on the north bank of the Chicago River. Since then, the city has managed to escape the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, survived the gang warfare of Al Capone and his cronies, lavished in Hugh Hefner’s Playboy clubs, and grown into a burgeoning metropolis.
An architectural epicenter, the city towers over the banks of Lake Michigan. Chicago boasts a multitude of extraordinary buildings including The Sears Tower, John Hancock building, Wrigley Building, and Unity Temple. Chicago is also home to the Field Museum, the largest public library in the world, and the Shedd Aquarium.
It goes without saying that you’ll want some keepsakes from this great city! What? You didn’t get any while you were there? No worries. Water Tower
A gothic tower in the middle of the city.
The Chicago Water Tower has been the city's most cherished landmark for over a century. This structure was designed in 1867 by architect William W. Boyington. It stands today as a memorial to the victims of the Great Chicago Fire.
Constructed of Joliet limestone blocks quarried in Illinois, the Water Tower was one of the only buildings left standing after flames engulfed the city of Chicago on the morning of October 9, 1871. On the day following the fire, the Water Tower served as a guidepost by which citizens hunted through the ruins for what had once been their homes.
Since then, the tower has become a monument to the efforts of Chicago's water works engineers and has remained a symbol of Chicago's indomitable can do spirit.
Solid pewter. 2 3/4" x 3". Cast in England.

John Hancock Center

John Hancock Center
Words from the creator.
"The design of the John Hancock Center, in Chicago, was influenced by its unique site. Just off Lake Shore Drive, it is surrounded by huge, residential high-rise buildings and yet faces one of the city's most attractive commercial streets. John Hancock insisted on producing a tall building with residences above, offices and commercial uses below.
The search for a new kind of structure which would accommodate multiple uses and also express the scale and grandeur of a one-hundred-story tower, lead Dr. Kahn and me to the diagonal tube. It was as essential to us to expose the structure of this mammoth as it is to perceive the structure of the Eiffel Tower, for Chicago, honesty of structure has become a tradition."
-- Architect Bruce Graham.
